Is there a cost for my business to participate in the CHEX program?
Where can cards be purchased?
At the moment, only at Uniting Harris Community Centre, 97 Quarry Street Ultimo, NSW 2007. In the future, we hope to make them available at different locations throughout the community.
What do I do with the CHEX card after a customer has presented it to me?
Keep it in a safe place until picked up by a CHEX program representative.
What do I do if a customer spends less than the $10.00 value of the card?
Unfortunately, Chex are not redeemable for cash. No change can be given. We encourage you to offer $10.00 specials.
How long will I have to wait to be reimbursed?
A CHEX representative will come to your business once a week to pick up cards and reimburse you. If you need to be reimbursed more frequently we can make arrangements to do so.
How will I be reimbursed?
You will be reimbursed on-the-spot by credit card.
What happens if I lose a card before I’m reimbursed?
You are responsible for the cards you have received from your customers. Unfortunately we cannot reimburse you for a lost card. Please treat them like cash.
Can I resell the cards I have?
No. We need to be able to sanitise and track every card so cards must be returned to the CHEX representative.
Who do I contact if I have any questions?
My business is not in Ultimo or Pyrmont. Can I still participate?
In addition to Ultimo Pyrmont, we are working with the Darling Square community as well as the Haymarket community. We hope to expand to more areas in the near future.

Can I buy CHEX cards online?
Not at this time but coming soon.
Can anyone purchase a CHEX card?
Yes. At the moment, CHEX cards can only be purchased at Uniting Harris Community Centre, 97 Quarry Street Ultimo, NSW 2007. In the future, we hope to make them available at different locations throughout the community. They make a great gift that supports our community.
If I don’t spend the full amount of the value of the card will I get change?
Unfortunately, at this time, CHEX are not redeemable for cash. No change can be given. We are encouraging businesses to offer $10.00 specials.
What happens if I lose my card? Will I be issued a new card?
The CHEX card is like cash. Unfortunately we cannot issue you a replacement card or reimburse you for the loss of the card.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
In this terms and conditions:
"Card" means an Chex Community Gift Card.
“Participating Retailer” means one of the retailers specified on the Website which accepts payment using the Chex Community Gift Card, as amended from time to time.
“Personal Information” includes, but is not limited to:
- your name, address, email address and mobile number; and
- the name and address or email address of the recipient of the Card.
“Recipient” means the individual (which may be you or another person) to whom the Card is to be given or donated.
“Redeem” means using the Chex Community Gift Card to purchase goods or services, and “Redeemable”, “Redeemed” and “Redemption” have corresponding meanings.
"Website" means chexcommunity.org.au.
A reference to "we", "us" or "our" is a reference to Uniting (NSW/ACT), trading as Uniting Harris Community Centre – through Chex Community Gift Cards Project
A reference to "you" or "your” is a reference to the person who is taken to agree to these terms and conditions under clause 2.
2. Agreeing to the terms and conditions
2.1 These terms and conditions apply to each Card.
2.2 You agree to be bound by these terms and conditions by purchasing, receiving, keeping, using, or attempting to use a Card or by making a transaction enquiry or exercising any right to redeem the value on the Card.
2.3 By purchasing, redeeming, using or attempting to use a Card, or by making a transaction enquiry or exercising any right to redeem the value on a Card, you warrant to us that you will comply with these terms and conditions and all applicable laws and that the Card will not be used in any manner that is unlawful, misleading, deceptive, unfair or otherwise harmful to consumers.
2.4 If you are giving a Card to another person, you should ensure that he or she is aware of the terms and conditions that apply to the Card.
3. The Chex Community Gift Cards
3.1 Each Card has a $10 value that may be redeemed in participating retailers. At our absolute discretion, we may in the future change the value of the Cards by issuing new cards with a higher or lower value. If we decide to do this, we will publish details on the Website.
3.2 The Cards cannot be recharged, added value, or be exchanged for money in any participating retailer stores.
3.3 Once the cards are used, it needs to be surrendered to the participating retailer for the equivalent value it holds.
3.4 Chex cards received through Harris Community Centre’s Emergency Relief Service, or donated for use in a fundraising appeal, will have a 60 day expiry date from the date of issue.
3.5 All cards are tracked. The issue date / expiry date should not be tampered with. This will in effect invalidate the card and a new card will not be re-issued.
3.6 If in the event that the Chex Community Gift Card Program will cease to operate, we will publish this information on our website and will update you on the next available steps for you to take on your Card.
4. Lost, stolen, or damaged Cards
4.1 You must treat the Card like cash. If your Card is damaged, please contact Uniting Harris Community Centre at (02) 9552 1140, or visit us at 97 Quarry St Ultimo NSW 2007. You can also reach us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
4.2 We can verify the card’s authenticity and upon verification, we can replace the damaged Cards. All cards have unique identifiers. We reserve the right not to replace your card if we believe (or reasonably suspect) that you have used (or will use) your Card contrary to these terms and conditions; or we believe (or reasonably suspect) that the damaged card wished to be exchanged is stolen from another person.
4.3 Lost or stolen cards cannot be replaced and will solely be the responsibility of the card holder, neither will we reimburse lost or stolen cards.
5. Purchasing, Donating, or Acquiring a Card
5.1 The Cards are distributed by Uniting Harris Community Centre as part of our emergency relief services. Together with food hampers or other items to be distributed in the future, a number of Chex cards are issued to any person who may be needing assistance.
5.2 The Cards can also be purchased by anyone who wish to support local businesses or distribute them to those in need. The funds acquired will help the Chex program run independent of funding in the future. However, these purchases cannot be tax deductible as they are for personal use.
5.3 The purchased Cards may be Donated back to Uniting Harris Community Centre to support the emergency relief services. Donations of over $2 may be tax deductible and a corresponding receipt may be issued.
5.4 If you believe the Gift Card has been tampered with prior to receipt, you must contact us immediately.
6. Redeeming your Card
6.1 Your Card can only be Redeemed for goods and services from any Participating Retailer within the Ultimo and Pyrmont area. These Participating Retailers will have Chex signs visible in their premises and will be honouring the Cards good as cash.
6.2 Prior to your purchase in store, you must advise the checkout operator that you are using a Chex Community Gift Card. There may be special deals in store that can only be used with Chex Cards.
6.3 You can redeem up to $10 worth of goods and services for each card. Multiple cards can be used at one time with no limit.
6.4 Card(s) cannot be refunded or used to obtain cash. Cards cannot be used towards the purchase of any gift cards sold through a Participating Retailer.
6.5 Further, you cannot use your Card to purchase:
a) Tobacco products;
c) Lotto / lottery products;
d) Other Gift cards and vouchers;
6.6 Resale of a Card is strictly prohibited. Cards that are resold in breach of this clause will be invalid with the result that purchasers of those cards will not be able to use or Redeem their Cards.
6.7. If you don’t spend the full amount of the value of the Card, no change will be given. However, where the price of the goods or services being purchased with a Card exceeds the Card Value of $10, you must pay the amount exceeding the Card value by an alternative payment method at the discretion of the relevant Participating Retailer.
6.8 Your use of a Card at a Participating Retailer is subject at all times to the policies (and other terms and conditions) of that Participating Retailer regarding the goods and services made available by it.
6.9 Once you redeem your card for goods and services at Participating Retailers, you must surrender these cards to them undamaged. These cards will be collected by Harris Community Centre from the Participating Retailers, sanitised and will likely be reissued to someone else.
6.10 The Redemption of Cards is restricted to the purchase of standard retail quantities of goods and other restrictions as may be imposed by law.
7.1 You are responsible for the use and safety of your Card, and are liable for all transactions made on your Card.
7.2 We will not be liable for any goods or services paid for using Chex Community Gift Cards. Any complaints regarding such goods or services should be addressed to the participating retailer. If a business partner becomes liable to make a refund, this will be a matter entirely between the participating retailer and the cardholder. Chex will not accept any responsibility for claims, demands, losses, costs, expenses or liability of any kind whatsoever arising from or in connection with any transaction or dealing between the participating retailer and cardholder.
7.3 Subject at all times to the exceptions in clause 7.4, we are not liable to you for any loss or damage (whether direct, indirect, consequential or special) either in negligence, tort, breach of contract, breach of warranty or for any other reason or cause whatsoever, arising out of or in connection with a Card, these terms and conditions or your use of the Website, including any loss or corruption of data, interference with or damage to your computer or any interruption, delay or failure in the Website.
7.4 The exclusion of our liability in clause 7.2 only applies to the extent permitted by law. Where consumer protection legislation implies any condition or warranty that cannot be excluded in these terms and conditions, we limit our liability for breach of any such implied conditions or warranties to re-supply of the services (or costs thereof). Any liability we have to you will be reduced by the extent (if any) to which you caused or contributed to the loss or damage. This clause 7 will apply even after this agreement has ended.
8. Intellectual Property / Relationship with us
8.1 Card(s) may be used as personal or business gifts, but must not be used in connection with any marketing, advertising or other promotional activities (including without limitation in websites, internet advertisements, email, telemarketing, direct mail, newspaper and magazine advertisements, and radio and television broadcasts) unless our prior written consent and approval is obtained. Card(s) that are used in marketing, advertising or other promotional activities in breach of this clause will be invalid with the result that recipients of those cards will not be able to use or Redeem their Card(s).
8.2 Use of our name, or any names, logos or get-up of any Card (other than in connection with the purchase or use of the Card), is strictly prohibited.
8.3 You must not use a Card in any manner that states or implies that any person, website, business or product or service is endorsed or sponsored by or otherwise aﬃliated with us or any of our subsidiaries or aﬃliates.

9.2 Any dispute arising from these gift cards should first be raised with Uniting Harris Community Centre and all alternative dispute resolutions process i.e. negotiation, conciliation, or meditation should be exhausted before pursuing any matter in a court of law.
11. Applicable Law
11.1 These Terms & Conditions are to be construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
